It takes a special – a very special – guy to be hot when young and buff and steamy, especially stepping from the churning Hawaiian waves or bathing beautifully in an after-shave commercial, and extra-ordinary hot when smoldering in playful Daddyness, especially wearing an immaculately black and coolly creamy white tux.
And at the top of that very exclusive list of very specially hot guys has to be Tom Selleck. Even when he was young (as in this commercial for Chaz Aftershave and Cologne), Tom looked like a daddy, what with his furry, masculine chest and that totally hot 70's porn star 'stache of his. Damn, how I wanted to ride that 'stache until my hole was raw when I was 15. And now, at 44 I still want to ride anything and everything Mr. Selleck would let me get at.
But this isn’t the place or the space or the time to celebrate Magnum PI’s swimsuited buffness, his tanned and chiseled athleticness, his playful and mischievous winks and grins. No, sir, this is the place and the space to look at Tom not as he was, frozen in DVD box sets, but as the supremely elegant and fun daddy he’s grown into.

Daddies, as we all know, come in all kinds of shapes and sizes, each one bringing a new kind of sexy to the party: stern yet fair, frosted with gray but ferociously hot, tough but tender – but Tom’s a different kind: an elegant yet fun and self deprecating Daddy.
You can just see him, the Daddy Tom Selleck that’s walking around these days: standing by the bar in some swanky and stylish nightspot, martini in one hand, hand perfectly put in the pocket of his flawless tux. He’s a dad that, sure, would be stern as well as fair, tough as well as tender, but there’s an gracefulness to Tom, a coolness to Mr. Selleck, that seems to just come out in these, his later year.
But this Daddy’s not a plastic doll, not at all: sure he looks all lean and trim, even when there might be a bit of snow on the roof and lines on his handsome face, but he still has what made Magnum PI so much fun – even after these days: that sweetly fun, devilishly playful, laughing-at-himself wink.
And when he played gay a few years ago in the "should I be laughing at this?" movie, In and Out, he played it with the same bemused, easy gentleness of Magnum. Perhaps it means he's not the greatest actor but I think it tells you he saw the gay version of his persona much the same as the straight one - handsome, charming, easy-going, and masculine. The same guy as Magnum, only he happens to like dick. That's my kind of guy, alright.
Yes, there is he, standing there in some swanky shindig, glass in his hand, but that sweetly hot little wink is there as well: his sign that all this is silly foolishness, ridiculous play-acting. With that wink Tom says that a kiss waits for you in the foyer, a strong arm around you on the walk to the car, and more – so much more – with a warm laugh, a tender smile, a heated hand on your chest … that the tux is nice, the party is swell, but that you as the real treasure of the night.
As said, it takes a very special guy to be hot at one age and even hotter when he steps into the world of dads and daddys: it’s a very exclusive club.
And one of it’s finest examples is Mr. Tom Selleck – but while he accepts the award that wink comes to his handsome face, a wink that melts the hearts of every daddy-loving guy in the room.
